PANJIM: Porvorim Congress candidate Vikas Prabhudesai is confident of winning with a satisfactory margin in the February 14 Assembly elections and that the victory will be all theirs.
Stating that the campaigning is going on in excellent way and he is getting a very good response from voters of Porvorim, Prabhudesai said, “This constituency has a lot of issues to be addressed”.
Prabhudesai said, “Being a voter of this constituency, I am connected with this constituency and the people. So far in my door-to-door campaign, I have covered around 85 per cent of the total constituency.
We started campaigning around 45 days ago. For last one decade, people are suffering due to bad roads besides irregular water supply and erratic electricity supply are three major issues haunting the residents of Porvorim. I strive to work for my people.”
Prabhudesai said, “During my door-to-door campaigning, people complain about these three major issues. Once coming to power, my first priority will be to solve these long pending issues. My vision is to solve the problems of my people”.
When asked about the recent defections and switching sides by MLAs from one party to another, Prabhudesai commented, “I am not a jumping frog, I am a Congressman by heart. Jumping from one party to another for greed of power and money is not my behaviour. A real Congressman never jumps.
In addition, “I have taken the oath of not switching sides. I have been active social worker and a Congressman since two decades. I will not switch party like the other MLAs”, assured Prabhudesai.
Stating that the neighbour should be blamed for spoiling a child rather than blaming the parents of the child, Prabhudesai said, “Rather than blaming the Congress MLAs for defection, BJP should be blamed for purchasing the MLAs.
Adding further, he said, “Contesting for the very first time is a great feeling. I will get to work for my society and my people.”
Replying to why people should prioritise him over others, he said, “People should vote for me since I don’t have any criminal background unlike the other contestants. “If all the other candidates contesting from Porvorim constituency are compared, I am the only one with no FIRs, no criminal record and corruption charges. I am neither involved in any crime nor in land grabbing”, Prabhudesai said.
Porvorim is majorly a residential area and therefore requires a good community health centre with a day care and dialysis. What we have here is just a Primary Health Centre (PHC), which is providing only basic health facilities. People of Porvorim have to suffer a lot since they have to travel to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, private or district hospital for dialysis”.
“We intend to build a good community health centre with day care and dialysis unit. I will take this project immediately giving highest priority, once voted to power”.
Stating that the ‘goondagiri’ is happening in the constituency, the Congress candidate said that it must be addressed as soon as possible.
Prabhudesai said, “People are scared to openly speak up about the issues they are facing since they are scared of the local MLA. Recalling the unsolved mystery of Vilas Methar murder case, Prabhudesai said, “This proves the failure of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Unsolved cases, illegal grabbing of land proves it all.”
Taking a dig at the former MLA, Prabhudesai said, “Local MLA failed to give justice to the constituency. Porvorim is always deprived of development”.
The Congress candidate appealed to the voters of Porvorim not to divert and waste their vote. “Other parties are playing division politics. Vote for Congress to form a stable government”, added Prabhudesai.
Furthermore, stating that he has full confidence of winning the Porvorim seat, Prabhudesai urged the people to vote for educated youth for better Goa and better Porvorim.
