PANJIM: Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has sought explanation from Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti for allegedly participating in the function, which was sponsored by a political party.
CEO IAS Kunal said that he has called for an explanation from Navti.
The photographs of Navti participating in a function organised by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) in association with the local cultural club had surfaced on the social media. MGP is a member of the ruling coalition.
Navti was seen distributing prizes during the cultural function held at Ponda. “We have called for the explanation and I will look into the facts,” Kunal said without elaboration.
When contacted, Navti said that he was unaware that the function had a banner of a political party, but admitted that he had attended it since it was a cultural event.
Navti said that he was not invited by the political party but by a local club Shrikrishna Cultural Club and hence had accepted the invite as a chief guest.
“I never violate the laws. I did not see the banner and sat on the stage directly,” Navti said adding, “I went with good intention that it is a cultural event.”
“There were no elected representatives on the stage,” the Additional CEO said.
