PONDA: The Antruz Mahal Shigmostav Samiti in association with the Tourism Department is all set to hold the grand Shigmo Parade, at Ponda, on March 28, from 3 pm to 10 pm.
The parade will include floats, romatamel, folk dance, fancy dress etc. Besides, there will be entertainment programmes from March 28 to 31, at various places including prize distribution of the float parade.
Tourism Department has earmarked Rs 10 lakh for infrastructure and Rs 6 lakh for prizes. With the Election Code of Conduct in force, the Ponda Shigmo Festival Committee President and PWD Engineer Viajykumar Verenkar has urged the Shigmo participants to follow the timing fixed for the parade between 3 pm to 10 pm.
Verenkar said Shigmo Parade will culminate at Ponda bus stand. Governor Mridula Sinha will be invited for inauguration. The participants have been asked to register between 3 pm and 4 pm.
On account of float parade, the traffic entering the town including passenger buses will be diverted from alternative routes such as KTC bus stand, Khandpaband, Varkhandem and Curti road and bypass road outside the town. Programmes on March 28, include prayers to Goddess Mahalsa and Zareshwar followed by Shigmostav parade.
On March 29, a prize distribution function will be held followed by Ranmale programme at Ponda bus stand and Lavani at Khandepar on March 29 and at Marcel on March 31. A drama will be staged at Ponda bus stand on March 30.
