MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) may stop lifting the garbage from the retail markets of South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), if the final meeting to sort out the issue pertaining to recovery of the dues is not resolved immediately.
Indications are that this may result in even major garbage havoc in the commercial town if the MMC decides to stop the collection of tonnes of garbage generated in the two markets owned by the SGPDA. The issue of dues has resulted in major conflict amongst both the bodies.

At the moment both, the MMC and SGPDA are pitching for recovery of the dues from each other. The MMC has already resolved to take on task the SGPDA in order to recover due of nearly Rs 1.2 crore, as charges towards the collection of garbage according to the agreement.
The process in this regard indicates that the issue will lead to a major conflict between the two bodies. However, the heads of both the bodies are very much confident that the issue will be resolved.
It is pertinent to note that at the recently held ordinary meeting of the MMC, it was brought to the notice of the civic body that the SGPDA has failed to pay Rs 1.2 crore to the MMC towards the fee of garbage collection for the last several years, hence the council had resolved to stop the collection of water, if the dues are not paid at the earliest.
The MMC has been engaged in collecting the waste generated in the markets owned by the SGPDA since 2001. Several tonnes of waste are lifted on a daily basis, and as per the guidelines they need to pay to the MMC.
