BJP likely to announce names of candidates for Margao polls today

MARGAO: The Margao BJP Mandal has short-listed candidates for upcoming municipal polls in Margao, after hectic closed-door meetings on Friday and Saturday.

The names of the candidates might be announced on Monday, said Damu Naik, former Fatorda MLA.
According to information, most of the candidates suggested by BJP member Rupesh Mahatme have been shortlisted by the party executives. Those present had each submitted three names from every ward.
The meeting was attended by South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, and Margao Mandal members.
With the election being apolitical, all parties have the huge task of getting their candidates ready for the elections.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that Mahatme has been finalised for Malbhat ward. It was also learnt that Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Arthur D’Silva has been given a free pass for any ward he chooses.
Damu Naik has backed Raju Naik for Ward 5, which has been reserved. Former councillor Raju Shirodkar is also a frontrunner in Ward 24. Suchita Prabhu Malkarnekar and another woman have been shortlisted for Comba. Durgadas Prabhu and Purnanand Chari have also been spoken about for a long time, but there is no confirmation on whether they have been selected for any ward.
