Says political interference will kill its meaning

MARGAO: The Popular Front of India on Wednesday demanded deletion of the objectionable clauses in the Goa Police Bill and non-interference of politicians in police affairs.
At a silent dharna held opposite the South Goa District Collectorate, here, this morning as part of the Anti-torture Day, PFI members later submitted a memorandum to the District Collector highlighting the plight of the Indian judicial system, saying it is an irony that the largest democracy in the world is the biggest human rights violator.
PFI Goa unit President Iftiyaz Sheikh said the Goa Police Bill which would be presented in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly gives immense powers to the political class to misuse police for their own gains. “The torture of weaker sections and religious minorities are increasing day by day and hence needs control at any cost,” he said, adding that the Popular Front of India strongly believes in the Constitution of India and advocates its use in true spirit and called upon all Indians to keep up the fight to build “India of equal rights”.
While condemning violations of human rights, PFI has demanded immediate repelling of death penalty.
