PANJIM: Portuguese coach Manuel Gomes is certain to quit Churchill Brothers after being lambasted by the club owners in a recent showdown.
Churchill Brothers have only themselves to blame as to why they aren’t on top of the I-League given that each time they had the opportunity to go ahead or even come closer to their rivals Dempo, they let it slip casually.
The club management has put the onus on coach Manuel Gomes for failing to guide the team through stressful situations and ensuring that the team wins eventually.
The coach was held responsible for a few negative results in the presence of the squad by the club’s who’s who, and Gomes was embarrassed and frustrated given that several of his powers had been taken away from him, something which a Churchill Brothers coach ought to expect at some point of the season anyway.
Gomes was absent at the team’s match against HAL which ended in a 1-1 draw. He as also absent at the final training session a day before their match against HAL and that could be the signal of the coach not wanting to continue.
Whether the Portuguese decides to stay with Churchill Brothers or not remains to be seen.
