CANACONA: Three of the six government-appointed post graduate doctors, who recently passed from the Goa Medical College (GMC), have been posted at Community Health Centre (CHC) Canacona.
Health Minister Laximikant Parsekar, who paid a surprise visit to the ailing CHC Canacona, informed media persons in the presence of Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar that the government had issued orders on June 10 posting three of the six post graduate doctors appointed by the government, to the CHC Canacona.
All the six appointees are from outside Goa, who pursued their post-graduate degrees from GMC.
When informed that not a since post graduate doctor had joined the CHC so far, Parsekar said, “The freshers must have gone to visit their families at their native places for a break, as they were studying in GMC for a long time. They will come back and join at any time. They had signed a bond with the government to serve for one year in the State after their post graduation.”
Parsekar said the government has now enhanced bond fee to Rs 10 lakh from the earlier Rs 5 lakh for post graduates and Rs 5 lakh for graduates (MBBS), thereby making it compulsary for the successful graduates from GMC to either serve the State for a minimum of 5 years or to pay the bond fees.
When asked what would be the government’s action if all three MDs posted to CHC Canacona surrender their bonds and fail to join duties, Parsekar replied, “People from Canacona may have to wait for another year for more doctors. Pernem also suffers from a similar problem,” he said.
