DULER: Dempo Sports Club scored a huge 4-1 win over Corps of Signals to collect full points in their GFA’s Goa Pro League match encounter, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday.
At halftime Dempo SC led by a 2-1 margin with Shallum Pires and Joaquim Abranches scoring, while Lairelakpam scored the lone goal for Corps of Signals.
With today’s victory Dempo SC stand with seven points while Signals stay at three points.
Dempo SC proved to be the superior side in today’s match in terms of ball possession and strikes at goal.
In the early moments of the match Dempo SC tested Signals keeper Prosun Sarkar who came with a clean save to keep away Milagres Gonsalves powerful header.
In the 27th minute of play the Golden Eagles shot into the lead when Prosun Sarkar created a blunder when in an attempt to push away Shallum Pires’s cross, he directed the ball into his own goal 1-0.
Eight minutes into the match Dempo SC doubled the lead when Prosun Sarkar managed to block Nickson Castanha’s effort at goal, only to see Joaquim Abranches who was lurking nearby fire the ball home, 2-0.
Corps of Signals finally managed to crawl back into the match when substitute Lairelakpam unleashed a 30-yard powerpacked right footer which crashed into the back of the Dempo nets, 1-2.
Crossing over, Dempo SC were all over the Signals territory when in the 3rd minute itself, India international Germanpreet Singh drilled in a rasping shot from 25-yards which caught the keeper on the wrong foot, 3-1.
Signals had their fair share of chances but Lairelakpam and Th. Roshan Singh failed to get past the rock solid defense marshaled by Mohammad Ali, Naveen Mendes, Shallum Pires and Nickson Castanha.
In the closing stages of the match Dempo fired in the final nail into the Signals coffin when Felix Odili Chidi gave finishing touches to Naveen Mendes spadework, 4-1.
