Today, September 8, the birthday of Mother Mary is celebrated all over the world as Mother’s Day. At the wedding in Cana, Mother Mary expressed her concern towards the married couple, after the wine was over, by saying to her son, “They have no wine left”. Jesus then performed his first miracle by transforming water into best wine.
Although, Mother Mary was the mother of the Son of God, she was a simple woman. Like Mother Mary, Mother Teresa also never boasted of her achievements. Mother Teresa never had ego while helping people. Once at the peak of anger, a rich man spat on the face of Mother Teresa when she came to ask him for help. Mother Teresa patiently cleared it and with unimaginable patience said to him, “Thank you for whatever you gave me, but what will you give to help my poor people”. The rich man got stunned by her response and gave her sufficient funds to help the needy people. She saw beauty in every human being.
Following the footsteps of Mother Mary, Mother Teresa expressed her love for God, by lifting and carrying those least important brethren in the society who were dying or sick as their true mother. Whether at work or in a family, it is very important to carry people along with you as people create success. Mother Teresa was like a magnet which was able to attract everyone due to her simplicity. It is important that we pay our respect to Mother Teresa on her canonisation by emulating the way she lived her life on earth. Mother Teresa was a complete great citizen on earth and hence she became a blessed citizen of Thy Heavenly Kingdom.
I was happy to meet Mother Teresa during her visit to Goa in 1986 and also glad that I had the opportunity to pay my respect to her by visiting her tomb during my visit to Kolkota in 2004. Mother Teresa was the face of Mother Mary on earth. I am sure that today on her birthday, Mother Mary will be very happy to see St. Teresa standing next to her in Thy Heavenly Kingdom. I wish all the mothers, a happy Mothers Day.
