MARGAO: Congress’s South Goa candidate for the Lok Sabha elections, Francisco Sardinha has said he is very confident of winning the elections.
Speaking to media persons, he said winning the elections would give him an opportunity to complete some of the incomplete tasks remaining from the last time he was the MP and pointed out that he has served thrice as member of parliament,
“I ensured that Dabolim will continue to remain an international airport and in fact got Rs. 500 crore invested in Dabolim to upgrade the airport,” he said replying to a question. Besides, he said in another 50 years Goa will need another airport and it made sense to build it now rather than having to raze down people’s houses to make place for it later on.
Besides he said the Mopa airport will not be commissioned till the highway from Pernem to Canacona is commissioned implying that there was still some time for the highway to be completed given the various objections from various quarters.
Commenting on the mining imbroglio he said the Congress party always supported and encouraged mining because it did not wish to deprive people their means of livelihood and accused the late Manohar Parrikar of only lying to the people on the mining issue.
“He first said there was a Rs. 35,000 crore scam in mining which later came down to Rs. 3,500 crore scam and later became only 350 crore scam,” he said while pointing out that it was for this reason that the people voted for Congress at the last assembly elections where they won from 19 constituencies.
He lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said his two main policies of demonetization and GST have been a dismal failure that only caused major hardships to the common man many of whom lost their savings and even jobs.
