MERCES: Acting tough on those who litter, the Merces Panchayat on Thursday warned of imposing a fine of Rs 5,000 on anyone found disposing garbage within their jurisdiction. It also warned that an FIR will be filed against the violators.
Addressing the media, Merces Panch Prakash Naik said, “I urge the people of Merces to keep the village clean and green. If anyone is found disposing garbage within the panchayat jurisdiction, he/she will be slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000 and an FIR will also be filed. We have recently started door to door collection of garbage and still if this continues, the Panchayat will be acting tough against the violators.”
He said, “Similarly, we have asked all the people from the village to give us a list of persons who are staying on rent in their premises and have also asked the landlords to inform them about proper disposal of garbage. We want to maintain the record of the people staying on rent. Information regarding this has already started coming in.”
He further said that the panchayat has identified a garbage segregation site and is waiting for the approval of the government authorities to go ahead with the project.
“We are planning to have segregation unit with composting pits. We have identified a site and have already sent a file for approvals from the government authorities. Earlier we had identified 2-3 sites which were rejected by the authorities. Unless we receive approvals, the project will not be taken forward,” he added.
