PANJIM: Terming the Panjim by-election results on “expected” lines, the Congress party on Monday said that the results should not be considered as a referendum either on them or the BJP government.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee executive committee which met Monday afternoon soon after party’s debacle in the by-poll also felt that the Delhi election, where the Congress was routed, had an impact on the Panjim by-election. However, GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro expressed his happiness that the Congress has managed to retain its base in Panjim, a constituency dominated by the BJP for the past 20 years. “We had to face this election fighting against great odds. We had the powerful BJP government working against us at the State and the Centre. The elections also came against the backdrop of recent Delhi elections,” GPCC media cell chairman Ramakant Khalap told media.
