FATORDA: Bardez Veterans got the better of Assolda Veterans 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the final of the 1st all-Goa Fatorda veterans tournament played at Don Bosco ground, Fatorda, on Thursday.
Both teams went on an attacking note from the first whistle as Assolda’s striker Agnelo Gomes took control of the ball from Eddie Fernandes and dribbled past Bardez defenders Domnic Fernandes and Lino Pereira before pulling the trigger from inside the Bardez box but the talented Bardez goalkeeper Mario Aquiar saved the ball with a swift dive.
At the other end, Bardez’ striker Ramesh Virnodkar collected the ball from Caetano Cardozo and dribbled past Jose Rebello and Pascoal Fernandes from the midfield and shot from the right flank but to the his dismay the rival keeper Anil Fernandes parried the ball to safety.
In the second half both the teams tried to score but the goalkeepers saved many strikes on target as a result the score at the full-time remained goal less.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Bardez netted through Lino Pereira, Alexander Fernandes, Lawrina Quadros and Domnic D’Souza while Orland Dias and Pascoal Fernandes were the only scorers for Assolda Veterans.
Bardez Veterans will clash with host Fatorda Veterans in the final on April 8.
