At an ordinary meeting of the Corporation, attended by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Cell, Dharmesh Angle, CCP decided to make all Panjim roads one way within the next month.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Angle said, “All Panjim traffic is going to be one way. We will first begin it on a trial basis wherein we will not chalan people. During this one month we will observe and understand how people accept it and where we have gone wrong.”
He said that to implement this, the traffic cell would need more police personnel and more equipment such as signages. “The main roads that will be one-way would be MG Road, Dr Dada Vaidya Road, CCP road towards ferry, Menezes Braganza Road and Swami Vevekanand Road,” Angle said.
The council meet also decided to slash the clamping fine on wrongly parked cars in the city. Taking into account the views of certain corporators who opposed clamping of cars, Panjim Mayor Shubham Chodankar said, “The fine for car will be Rs 300 and for bike it will Rs 150.” The current rates were Rs 400 for cars and Rs 250 for bikes. This move was not welcomed by some corporators.
