MAPUSA: Vasco Sports Club registered their first win in the GFA’s Goa Pro League with a 2-0 win over Clube Sao Miguel De Taleigao, at Duler stadium, on Saturday.
Coming back from two defeats in the league, Vasco had nothing but three points on their mind. Both the goals came in the first session of play through Abhil B and Kingslee Fernandes respectively.
Taleigao did try to create some openings for themselves, however the Vasco defence along with their keeper did a commendable job to keep the slate clean.
Vasco created their first effort at the rival goal in the 9th minute when Allen Fernandes saw his curling free-kick go inches over the Taleigao goal.
Minutes into the match, Taleigao tested the rival keeper when Gautam Das sent the ball across to Pramod Mardolkar, whose firm header was neatly kept away by Shilton Fernandes.
After a series of missed opportunities, Vasco managed to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Sujil Ns ran down the left flank and flashed the ball across the Taleigao goal area to Abhil B who made no mistake to slam the ball into the far corner of the goal, 1-0.
Taleigao should have reduced the margin in the 34th minute of play however Vasco defender Rovan Pereira did well to block Sherwin Lobo’s cross before Pramod Mardolkar, who was lurking nearby, could do any damage.
Moments before the halftime whistle, Vasco went further up by a goal when Kingslee Fernandes got hold of the ball from Sujil Ns and after making his way past the Taleigao defenders, slotted the ball home, 2-0.
Changing ends, Vasco got into the offensive right from the word go where in the first minute itself Abhil B saw his firm header bang the Taleigao horizontal bar and bounce back into play.
Minutes into the match, Levino Pereira saw his free-kick being kept away by Vasco keeper Shilton.
Vasco were reduced to ten men in the 58th minute of play when their Ivory Coast striker Franck Alves Kouassi was given marching order after his second booking of the match by referee Jose Rebello.
After some midfield play Vasco’s Sujil Ns set up overlapping Kingslee Fernandes who on entering the Taleigao danger zone shot the ball wide.
