TDS source of 45% of Govt income

Seminar on TDS awareness held at Margao

MARGAO: The office of the Commissioner of Income Tax, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) organized a seminar to enhance awareness on the legal and procedural provisions and filing of the e-TDS statements for all the Drawing and Disbursement Officers of the State of Goa, on Friday. 
The seminar was addressed by the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Nutan Wodiyar; K Mehboob Ali Khan, Joint Commissioner of Income Taxes TDS Range, Panjim; Abhijit Patankar, Commissioner of Income Tax Panjim and Director of Accounts Gurudas Kanekar. The Goa Karnataka region of TDS has shown growth of 17 percent and is now the 3rd highest in the country.
The Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Nutan Wodiyar has congratulated the Goa Commissioner for taking one step ahead in connecting to the tax payers and assesses and deductees and has proudly announced that the Income Tax Department has gone from Notice Regime to Invitation regime to pay taxes. She also congratulate the Goa Karnataka region for clocking over 17% growth and around Rs 20,000 crore in taxes already collected from the target of Rs 32,900 crore.  
“The TDS collection being the most cost effective source of revenue to Government has now become the source to 45 percent of income to the Government. The moves of the Department to connect are aiming at helping the deductees and assesses to reach to the department and pay dues in more comfortable way” said Nutan Wodiyar. “In the age of Globalisation we have to be online and can’t afford to be offline, hence, the move of the Goa Karnataka region of issuing the sec 197 certificates online is applauded and is now being followed by other states” she added. 
The Income Tax Commissioner of Goa Abhijit Patankar said “A conference of this size for Goa is aimed at passing of the message to assesses and the tax payers of awareness to get paying. The Commissioners office will not only monitor and give advises but will also help all the people in whatever capacity we can to get the mission completed” said Abhijit.
A presentation pertaining to the enhancing of the awareness on the legal and procedural provisions and filing of the e-TDS statements for all the Drawing and Disbursement Officers of the state of Goa was held in the evening session of the seminar.
