38th edition of Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar Sangeet Samoroha commences today

The curtain raiser to the 38th edition ofthe prestigious Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar festival organised by Kala Academy Goa will take place today, November 2, 2018, in which speakers/experts of music will participate and present their views on ‘Indian Classical Music and its Aesthetics’. The festival will commence later in the day, at 5:45pm

Samoroha will be inaugurated today, November 2, 2018 at the hands of Govind
Gaude, Minister for Art and Culture, Government of Goa and Chairman of Kala
Academy Goa, at 5:45pm at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy
Complex, Panjim. The three-day festival is set to witness the participation of
a galaxy of top rated vocalists and instrumentalists of India.

Prior to the inaugural function, the curtain raiser event of the
festival, a Symposium on the topic ‘Indian Classical Music and its Aesthetics’
will be held between 10:30am and 1:30pm at the Black Box in which
speakers/experts of music, namely Pt Dinkar Panshikar, Dr Vidhyadhar Vyas and
Dr Ajay Pohankar will participate and present their views in the threadbare
discussion session to be moderated by noted music critic Mukund Sangoram.

After the inaugural function, renowned vocalist Ustad Arshad Ali
Khan will present Classical Vocal Concert at 6pm. The first day’s session will
conclude with Instrumental Concert(santoor) by Pt Satish Vyas.

On November 3, the
second day’s session will begin at 10:30am with Classical Vocal Recital by
local artiste Veena Mopkar and at 11amClassical Vocal Concert by Dr Arun
Dravid. The morning session will conclude with Instrumental concert (Harmonium
Solo) to be presented by Pt Vishwanth Kanhere.The afternoon session will begin
at 4pm with the Classical Vocal Concertby Bharathi Prathap, followed by Vocal
Concert (Thumri) by Dhanashree Pandit Rai at 5:15pm. Pt Arnab Chatterjee will
present Classical Vocal Concert at 6:30pm. The session will conclude with
Instrumental Concert (Sitar) at 7:45pm by Pt Kushal Das.

On the concluding
day, November 4, Shobha Choudhary will present Classical vocal Concert at 10am
followed by Anuradha Kuber’s Classical Vocal Concert at 11:15am.TheSarangi
Instrumental Concert byUstad Moinuddin Khan will begin at 12:30pm. The
concluding session of the festival will begin at 4 pm with Vocal Recital by
local artiste Sandesh Khedekar.Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan will present Classical
Vocal Concert at 5pm followed by Classical Vocal Concert by Pt Kedar Bodas at
6:30pm. The festival will conclude with the Instrumental Jugalbandi Concert at
7:45pm by renowned artiste Pt Kumar Bose (tabla) and Vidwan Thiruvaarur
Bakthavathsalam(mridangam).

All the above
artistes will be provided with instrumental support by renowned artistes like
Omkar Gulwady, Mohammad Akram Khan, Kalinath Mishra, Mukundraj Deo, Tulshidas
Navelkar, Uday Kulkarni, Mayank Bedekar, Anish Kondurkar (tabla) andSudhanshu
Kulkarni,RayaKorgaonkar,ChinmayKolhatkar, SubhashFatarpekar,Siddhesh Bicholkar,
Dattaraj Surkejar and Prasad Gawas (harmonium).VL Kumar (violin), Sarwar
Hussain (sarangi)and Vilas Palkar (pakhawaj) will also provide instrumental
support to the artistes.

The
festivalis rated amongst the top 10 music festivals of India and all its
concerts are open to music lovers and the general public, apart from a few
reserved seats. The festival will conclude on November 4.
