6 m 40 secs: Say it through pictures at PechaKucha

The unique PechaKucha had a goal of bringing prominent and up-and-coming creative minds together for a night of inspiration, networking, and fun, the event was a resounding success. The 4th volume was held at Anjuna last week

Six minutes, forty seconds, Designers, architects and other creative species had
that much time and twenty slides to tell their story at an eclectic venue in a
festival with an equally eclectic name- PechaKUcha

In the PechaKucha
format, each presenter is only allotted 20 slides, advanced automatically every
20 seconds. The speakers included big names from the design faternity like
Wendell Rodricks, Bhagyashree Patwardhan, Ayaz Basrai, Poonam Verma Mascarenhas,
Avik Sarkar, Hyacinth Pinto, Tallulah Dsilva, Mukund Athale, Devika Martins and
Ruturaj Parikh.

Speaking on his
experience, Wendell shared, ”PechaKucha is a very interesting concept. The
ambiance is very relaxed and I thought each person’s work was so fascinating
and out of the box. Personally, it was a challenge to tell a story in 6 minutes
forty seconds. I navigated through the twenty slides somehow and could speak
about the Moda Goa Museum and Research Centre. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood
and the air was of festive learning.”

Avik Sarkar, who is
an industrial designer and founder of Thinkering, shared, “It’s always so
exciting and humbling at the same time to hear your peers speak; to get a peek
into their minds when they share their journeys with you.”

“I enjoyed the
camaraderie and insights. The format works because it helps to retain the
focus, especially in today’s times of diminishing attention spans. I also
enjoyed the process and appreciate the effort that went into making the event
memorable,” said Poonam Mascarenhas, architect and conservationist.

“I loved it! The
format was interesting and something I had not tried earlier. A picture speaks
a thousand words but words too add to the story. There’s always so much to
explain when the work experience has been an enriching one. I loved all the
presenters and speakers. There was so much to see and learn. And it was a
privilege to share space with designers and architects from diverse backgrounds
and experience,” shared architect Tallulah D’silva.

“PechaKucha
nights have been successful in galvanising people in various communities to
share perspectives, concepts and knowledge, often laced with humour, much to
the great enjoyment of the audiences.” says Ravi Kambhoj, Creative Director of
Festivalists, the organisers of PechaKucha Nights in Goa.
