A merry morning of cake-mixing

Christmas cheer
set in early in the year as ITC Fortune,
Miramar held its cake-mixing event. With children and youngsters
running around in the lobby area, the hosts set up the ingredients required to
make up a wholesome Christmas cake. Headed by Executive Chef Samir Giri, the
bakery department of the hotel were enthusiastic to host the cake-mixing event
of the year.

Everyone, from the hotel guests and staff to the invitees, were
provided with gloves, hair nets and hats and aprons to ensure hygienic
measures. Once ready, they could approach the long tables set up with a variety
of liquors, dry fruits and nuts. The dry fruits and nuts comprised cashews,
pistachios, almonds, raisins, figs, apricots, prunes and walnuts. The liquor,
including rum, vodka, brandy, whisky and wine, was poured in and the staff and
guests had a jolly time mixing the ingredients till they were soaked through.

“This
is my first cake-mixing at the hotel and our first event for the Christmas
season. The mix will be added to caramelised sugar, refined flour, eggs and
sugar. Spices like cinnamon and star anise powder will also be added to the
batter. We will start baking around December 5, 2018. In the bakery section, we
have four staff members, Eric, Joel, Bhikanji and Vaseema,” says Chef Samir.
The day was also special to the staff members as the event was held on
International Chef Day.
