A photography workshop in the lap of nature

Expert Wildlife
photographer Kedar Bhat
conducted
a three-day macro photography workshop at Natures Nest, in Tambdi Surla
recently. Photography enthusiasts and nature lovers got to shoot rare amphibians,
reptiles, birds and flowers and learnt the latest professional techniques from
Kedar, who has spent over a decade mastering the art of clinically shooting
living creatures from close quarters.

The hands-on workshop taught participants how to become
comfortable with all the major functions of the camera, which included taking
photos while the subjects were in full motion. They also learned how to take
good care of the camera body, delicate lenses and accessories. Kedar
demonstrated post processing techniques that greatly improved the quality of
the photographs.

The professional photographer was accompanied by expert
naturalist Ramesh Zarmekar, who has a strong love for wildlife. He also
possesses a natural skill to spot beautiful creatures while they are
camouflaged in the picturesque green forest surroundings, which came in very
handy. By using the specialist knowledge in their respective fields of
expertise, the duo answered all the questions related to macro photography and
wildlife.

The weekend started
with an introductory macro photography seminar and a guided nature trail. The
second day included discovering interesting reptiles such as the Humped Nose
Pit Viper. Participants also visited the ancient 13th Century Mahadev Temple in
Tambdi Surla. The excursion included a nature trail to the laterite plateau
area to find more flora and fauna such as The Saw-scaled Viper, scorpions and
beautiful monsoon wildflowers. This was followed by a night trail in search of
the Malabar Gliding Frog and bio-luminescent fungus, Travancore Wolf Snake,
Caecilians, Malabar Tree Toad and more. The final day included a visit to
Chorla Ghat, which is known for having humid climatic conditions that produces
an environment conducive to grow an abundance of vegetables. The trip to the
inspirational waterfalls was the perfect end to a weekend of fun and adventure.

The guests enjoyed
the trip immensely which included staying in the comfortable Nature’s Nest
cottages for both nights. The participants also got to enjoy the peaceful
panoramic vistas, while relaxing in the lap of nature.
