While the hard work
that goes into a project does matter, when it comes to results and feedback, it
all boils down to presentation. It is important for more Goan filmmakers to do
their best to bring out good movies, at the same time, ensuring that adequate
attention is given to the promotion of the film as this helps in taking the
film to a wider audience. The holds true for the film ‘MMS – a violent story of
love’, a suspense thriller where love and family values take centre stage. The
film’s producers are going the whole nine yards in terms of promotion and have
been quite successful in rousing public interest.
Savio Rodrigues, MD
and CEO of Kaydence Media Ventures and Kianna Pictures took a keen interest in
Konkani films the moment he saw the trailer of ‘Home Sweet Home’. “My
daughters, Kianna and Kaydence, are movie buffs. But once I saw the trailer of
‘Home Sweet Home’, I understood that there is great talent in Goa in terms of
films. Kianna Pictures was handling the national and International marketing
for the film. I went onboard with the team of ‘MMS…’ just three months back.
They have been working on the film for nearly two years,” says Savio who has,
so far, read almost ten Konkani film scripts for future projects.
The film is directed
by Joywin Fernandes and the cast of ‘MMS…’ comprises professional actors
including Prince Jacob, Kevin D’Mello, Maya Khalsi, Roseferns, Sonam Morajkar,
Kunal Malarkar, Rozario Estibeiro, Hemant Parab and Santosh Gawas.
“The aim of Kianna
Pictures is to give a boost to Konkani films and to reach out to a wider
audience. Promotions of the film are on in full swing with online trailers
being uploaded as well as the #MMSWhoDoneIt contest running on social
networking sites. We are also organising road shows in colleges and giving away
merchandise to lucky winners. We have so far received nearly 350 emails for the
contest. The lucky winners, a boy and a girl, will get a chance to star in our
next project. To guess the name, you have to watch the trailer,” says Savio
Rodrigues of Kianna Pictures.
He further adds, “We
will also be sending out 3,00,000 MMS videos containing a one minute movie
trailer by April 1, 2015 and there will be free premiere tickets for winners.”
The film will premiere on April 10, 2015 at Inox.
According to
Rodrigues, what sets ‘MMS…’ apart from other Konkani films is its genre,
among other things. “MMS is a suspense film, a topic which Konkani cinema has
not touched, and it gives importance to relationships. A father and a daughter
always have a strong relationship and that is explored through the film, when
the father learns about an MMS of his daughter. The special effects in the film
are also amazing. Films like these show that Konkani films can be made better.”
Besides ‘MMS…’,
Kianna Pictures is also working on three Konkani films and a bilingual film in
Hindi and English. A multichannel network to upload Konkani films which can be
viewed by internet users is also in the pipelines.
To conclude, he says,
“We need to understand Goan movie goers. They want films with comedy, action
and Goa centric themes. Films like ‘MMS…’ bring movie lovers back to the
cinema.”
