Nawazuddin Sidiqqui is
one of the most interesting actors in the country willing to take up roles that
are interesting and challenging. His next movie called ‘Rautu Ki Beli’ sees him
essay the role of a policeman trying to solve a murder. The director of the
movie was not keen on providing any information about the movie. The crew and
the cast met with members of the media last evening.
In a conversation with the OHeraldo, Nawazuddin when asked what prompted him to take up the role he
said,” The characters simplicity, honesty there is nothing extraordinary about
him, he is simple and works in the village in the pace of the village and
solves the case without being special is why I took up the role.” When asked if
interesting complex nuanced characters were now common in series on OTT
platforms, he disagreed saying that was not the case because one could get such
characters in mainline cinema too and that was evident in the movies being
screened at the festival.

Nawazuddin has been busy during his stay
in Goa. On Friday he was part of the ‘In-Conversation’ during which he gave
advice to young aspiring actors. He said, “If you have to begin from zero, you
must first unlearn what you have learnt.” Speaking of his journey he said
worked as a chemist in a petrochemical company for a short while. To fulfil his
dream of becoming an actor, he got associated with theatre. Eventually, he got
admitted to the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi.
Thinking back, he said he was offered small roles because he had
no other alternative and had to survive. “It is the difficult time that makes
you strong,” he said.
Asked about the effect of Gangs of Wasseypur on his acting
career, he said the movie made him believe in himself. “I was confident that my
struggles would get over after this and people will appreciate this movie”, he
said.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui talked about his experience of working on
web series on Netflix and other OTT platforms. He said earlier he was hesitant
to work on series on OTT platforms as he had no idea about them. However,
Anurag Kashyap convinced him to work on these platforms. The Sacred Games web
series in which he starred turned out to be a big hit on Netflix.
Nawazuddin also talked about playing roles in biopics Manto,
where he played the role of prominent Urdu author Saadat Hasan Manto, and
Thackeray, in which he played as Indian politician Bal Thackeray.
When asked where he gets the drive and motivation to work every
day, Nawazuddin said that acting is his hobby, and I don’t get tired of it.
“Acting is my everything, it’s my life. Even one life is not enough to satiate
my thirst for acting”, he added further.
During
the session, the actor also shared some snippets on his role as a transgender
in his upcoming movie Haddi.
