After Delhi results, does politics now have new ground rules?

The recent election results in Delhi showed everyone that a new paradigm was emerging where performance on the ground was paramount. More importantly it had to be visible and people’s lives had to visibly improve. Will that now be the future ground rules for re-election in the country. Cafe spoke to various people in the state to find out.

 The people were
clear they wanted work to be done The local people of Delhi especially those in
the poorer sections of society were very happy that they could be able to
access education similar in standard as those found in private schools. I hope
something similar happens here in Goa too and people vote for change and look
forward to delivery on promises made during election time.

In Delhi a point was made no doubt,
you work and people experience the benefits of your work and their lives
improves then you stand a good chance of being elected again. It is hard work
which requires a lot of effort which many people are not really interested in
doing. This is something the political class is generally not keen on. They
want to get elected by any means and then spend the next five years filling
their pockets. But I don’t really see the overall system changing. Sadly

Delhi is a cosmopolitan place. It
has poor who are not as poor as those in other parts of the country. Then it
has a big middle class. Then I would say it does not represent the country but
it does show generally what the middle class wants. To that extent I agree but
one thing is certain that performance matters. But I don’t accept the country
has not been looking at performance. ManmohanSingh got 2 terms the first term
was good and due to the good performance he was given the mandate to run the
country for another five years.

I think it is happening. The
collective consciousness and the collective wisdom is coming to the fore.
People will see and want to see distinctive changes. Those who perform will be
re-elected and those who don’t will lose.

NILANKURDAS, FOUNDER THUS, ASSAGAO

People are against politics of
intolerance. No one wants to destroy the social fabric. kudos to whathappened
in Delhi People have realised they want to see performance and one which can

 be seen and
felt by everyone. We don’t need hate, we need a better future. No suffering
anymore.

ROUSSEL DE MIRANDA, MARGOA. BUSINESS

That is ideally
the way it should be. But in Goa it is still issue based, and party based.
People have to learn to look at the larger picture and decide for a better
future. Performance is important and this was visible in Delhi in the way the
people voted. I hope that happens in Goa soon.
