Christmastime
is one of the most colourful seasons for us. We do chores together as a family,
decorating the house, the Christmas tree, the crib, sweets and so many
activities for the children as its the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Everything is just perfect. I’ve been blessed with so much that I couldn’t ask
for anything more and I am happy with what I have. I can give happiness to my
family, especially my son. Making sure that there is lots of love,
understanding and patience is all that I can give my son and the people I love.

Christmas
has always been a special time for me where it’s all about spending time with
family. It’s also about getting that Christmas feeling by putting up the
Christmas Tree, decor made by the kids, my daughter strumming the guitar and
singing carols and finally going for mass on Christmas Day. This Christmas, I
would like to bring joy to street children and our older generation, who are
lonely in homes for the aged. I would like to take time off my busy schedule
and spend it with my children when they are home for their Christmas vacations.
Christmas should be less of material things and more about giving joy.

The
fact that a good man with a godly message was born at Christmas makes this
season so very special. There have been many prophets before with an equivalent
message, especially Gautam Buddha. But Christ’s message of love, compassion and
equality among men takes on an enlightened path for mankind. I treat this
season with a more spiritual approach rather than a celebratory materialistic gifting
season. I celebrate the thought that Christ gave the world a very important
message. As a gift for Christmas, I hope our leaders look at the future of Goa
in the right direction, that they plan a more eco friendly Goa. We should have
the gift of wisdom to build green spaces instead of only construction and rice
fields are alive again and that Goans become more compassionate about our land,
history and culture. The gift of joy, peace, harmony, happiness and health is
what I wish for everyone.

Besides
the Good News of the salvation of the world through the birth of Jesus,
Christmas is a time of family reunion, a time to forgive and a time to love. I
would love to have moments of silence, time for reflection and for reaching
out. Somehow December ends up being the busiest time of the year. So all I
would like for Christmas is time. Over the years, I’ve seen how the consumerist
culture has overtaken us. So now it is not plain gifts but expensive ones that
are expected. What is more, it is the kids themselves who determine the gifts
they would like to receive for Christmas, sometimes leaving the elders
flabbergasted.
