All work and no play

The story revolves around Annie Gonsalves (Chitra), an employee in a bank, her spouse Norman (Normandez), who is a musician, and her son Franky (Franky Gonsalves). Annie’s desire was to become a doctor, but it was not so. She finally turned out to be a banker.

As her dreams remained unfulfilled, Annie wants her only son to top in his studies and become a doctor. She deprives him of all the entertainment and makes him a bookworm.

Norman is sympathetic towards his son, but can do very little to help him in front of his dictatorial and dominating wife. But will the strict mother’s attitude serve Franky any good? Will he be able to fulfil his mother’s dreams?

On the other hand, there are the neighbours Jagdish Hegde (Pegado), his spouse, Mandakini (Aplon) and their only son Gundappa (Alijoy). Gundappa is Franky’s classmate in the college and outshines in his studies. But he is more playful than and not as serious as Franky. There’s Sheena (Sheena), who is Franky and Gundappa’s classmate, but joyful, mischievous and full of energy.

Franky Gonsalves’ tiatr ‘Franky-chi Mama’ is educative, with a message for the guardians and students. Each child is gifted with unique talents and they need to be tapped at the right time. Proper guidance can help flourish and prosper in life.

All the artistes have given a fine performance on stage, though a few exaggerations could have been avoided in some scenes. Dragging of some acts result in boredom and should be avoided.

Chitra stands out as the strict and dictatorial mom. Normandez is a happy-go-lucky spouse and musician. Franky is apt to his role. Alijoy and Sheena extend good support to the lead actors. In their migrant dress code, Pegado and Aplon are appealing, though a little of overacting could be avoided. Tracy makes a cameo as Sunita and delivers confidently. As a priest, Merwyn makes a pleasant appearance and good dialogue delivery.

There are comic acts coming from comedian Humbert, Dorothy, Michael and Julius. The foursome has good dose of laughter pills to deliver.

In the category of songs, Sheena renders the opening song, followed by solos from Tony de Ribandar, Merwyn, Marcus Vaz, comedian Michael, Normandez and Saby de Divar. There are two songs by Chitra and Alijoy and Tony and Sheena. Other two songs are by Dorothy, Aplon and Tracy and Humbert, Michael and Julius. A quartet and choral went amiss in the show. Anthony de Velim and his team have provided good live music, besides background music by Richard.
