Earthytude reveals that they came across this recent innovation that has been patented
in the US; a compound that is an extract from waste sugarcane (bagasse) and
other vegetable and organic waste that has a great binding quality, tenacity
and strength to be created into carry bags. These ecograde bags are lighter and
stronger than plastic and serve the same purpose. They degrade within 240 days
and fortify the soil.
This find of theirs coincided with the plastic ban drive that is
being carried out throughout the state and country. They immediately brought
this technology to Goa, under the banner ‘Earthytude’.
“Now one can freely use, reuse, compost and recycle these
Earthytude ecograde bags without the carcinogenic toxins of plastic bags. Even
the inks that we use to print are 100 per cent natural. A lot of supermarkets
and restaurants have come forward and are using these ecograde bags, which can
be customised,” Earthytude reveals.
They have also launched paper straws to combat the hazardous
plastic straws that are the number one pollutants of the environment. Their
paper straws can last in any liquid for more than an hour and are completely
food grade.
They
have plans of launching ecograde garbage bags, jute grow bags, recycled news
paper pencils, corn starch take away containers, wooden tooth brushes and other
sustainable packaging solutions to be rid of plastic for good.
