Amalgamation of Musical cultures at Mahindra Open Drive

The acts who will present their works represent a wide variety of genres from Indian folk, gypsy music, African etc. This will make for a very interesting experience

The
first Mahindra Open Drive will play host to some of
the more interesting acts doing their bit
on the international stage. With a humanitarian spirit at its core, the
festival will use music, the arts and culture to engage audiences and allow
them to experience and understand this cause through story-telling and
entertainment. It will comprise of a souk – showcasing local artisan-crafted
products, an exhibition of Goa’s culture, performances by international
artists, installation artists and a local and international cuisine feast.

The festival will feature a mix of
international and local artists including headliners ‘Chico and The Gypsies’
who would accompany world and folk music sensations Raghu Dixit, HarounaSamake,
Brooklyn Funk Essentials and Nikhil Dsouza. This eclectic mix of artists will
embody the soundscape of the festival and complement the culture and ethnicity
of Goa as a community.

Chico and the Gypsies the founder of Gipsy
Kings and without doubt the worlds biggest crossover act ,Gypsy Kings founder
and French native Chico will headline with a blistering rendition of all his
hits. Expect heavy dancing to all your favourite gypsy tracks like DjobiDjoba,
Bamboléo and Soy, Chico. For a former geologist, he has done pretty well for
himself thank you. Nikhil D’ souzais a Mumbai based singer, songwriter and
guitarist. He has come a long way. From playing at massive stages at the BBC
biggest weekend festival, Live at Leeds, Great Escape, support gigs for Zac
Brown, Striking Matches, Lizzie and Zavier Rudd to some of the biggest venues
in the U.K. and also selling out his own headlining show at The Waiting Room
and St. Pancras Old Church.

Raghu Dixit is undoubtedly one of the country’s biggest exports.
Raghu Dixit’s infectious, happy music transcends age, genre, and language.The
Raghu Dixit Project has played concerts to over a 100,000 people in Karnataka
including performances at the famed Glastonbury Festival. He has also featured
on some of the biggest music based shows in the world including BBC’s Later..
with Jools Holland.

This
is a cat you don’t really want to miss. HarounaSamake is a long time
Kamalen’goni player for the legendary Salif Keita, Malian musician
HarounaSamake, a master of the instrument, plays groovy, energetic Mali Blues
& Mandingo styles in complex compositions. His texts on Human Rights and
society are sung in Bambara with a few French and English lines. Beautifully
orchestrated with some of Mali’s top musicians, the music is determined to
inspire dance, amidst some serious listening. These are really big boys . Cats
who have carved their own niche. Brooklyn Funk Essentials have been presenting
their unique brand of eclectic funk to ecstatic audiences around the world.
Made up of musicians, singers and poets from around the globe, the group is an
all-star-team famously mixing styles like soul, jazz, latin and house – all
rolled into one ferocious funk fest. If it grooves, they will funk it! Sit back
