The NSS Unit of Rosary College of Commerce and
Arts, Navelim, held its Annual Inaugural Programme last month at the Rosary
Parish Hall, Navelim. The programme began with a prayer service followed by a cultural
programme. The Principal Rev Dr Simão Diniz in his address encouraged the
students to work with enthusiasm as volunteers of the National Service Scheme
so that they can be the agents of change that our country and mother earth
needs today. He gave the students a few practical tips on helping and assisting
the aged and needy in society with their day-to-day activities. Rev Dr Simão
Diniz also spoke to the volunteers about steps they can take at a personal
level to keep the environment clean and healthy and help the elderly by
adopting an elderly couple living alone.
The Chief Guest Rev Fr Eremito Rebello, a
passionate environmental activist, spoke to the students about his experiences
fighting for various environmental causes. He also appreciated the National Service
Scheme for working towards the betterment of humanity in the form of cleaning
up beaches and propagating systems of waste management. He emphasised on how
much nature has to offer us and human beings who are the zenith of God’s
creation have a duty to serve each other. Rev Fr Eremito Rebello in his address
also focussed on the need for sustainable development with least damage to the
environment.
