Hanuman Kambli is among one of the renowned and noted Goan artists. Born and brought up in Pirna, Hanuman has had exhibitions in India and abroad. A graphic artist and former professor, department of printmaking, Goa College of Art, he will be participating in a group exhibition, ‘Equally Guaranteed To All Without Regard’ curated by Johny ML at India Habitat Center, Visual Art Gallery, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, from July 19 to 24. The exhibition will be featuring the works of 50 artists of India in the medium of painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing.
Hanuman is the only Goan artist who has been invited to the exhibition. He will be having two paintings on display. ‘Agony’ is a 20×40 inch painting, with acrylic, pen and ink medium and ‘Notebook’ is a 22×30 inch painting with water colour, acrylic, pen and ink medium. “As it is a group exhibition, we could send only two works per artist. I was approached by Johny ML almost a year back about the exhibition. unfortunately, due to the pandemic and various other reasons, the exhibition was postponed to July this year. India Habitat Center in New Delhi is a prestigious centre to have a huge scale exhibition. However, I won’t be traveling for the exhibition,” says Hanuman, who even had his solo exhibition at the British Council Gallery in New Delhi.
The exhibition features 31 participating artists and 19 invited artists. The participating artists are mostly Indian upcoming and fresh talent on the art scene while the invited artists are senior artists who have been in the field of art for over 30 years.
Whether Covid took a hit on the Goa art scene, Hanuman believes that every artist will have their own perspective. He didn’t let that quiet time go to waste and concentrated on creating more art. “It gave me more time to retrospective and bring out more work. I had enough time to concentrate and I even participated in online group exhibitions during and after Covid. We had shows in Delhi and Kolkata, “he says proving that art can never be suppressed as creative juices will continue to flow.
