Goan artists from varied backgrounds, some doctors or busy housewives, others
professional artists, photographers and students, are uniting to pool together
different genres of art: abstract, figurative, folk art, pen and ink works,
watercolours, miniature style and the like, with the sole purpose of using
their innate talents to add smiles to young faces, feed hungry stomachs and
help children in distress.
This year, Artists
for a Cause, under the banner Different Strokes in collaboration with Don
Bosco’s Konkan Development Society (KDS) are holding their exhibition and sale at
Sanskruti Bhavan, (Central Library) Art Gallery, Patto-Panjim from December 8
to 10, 2018 between 10am and 7pm.
Today our country and
state are in need of carrying out the mandate of Education for All. The Konkan
Development Society is a registered NGO, whose aim and primary focus is on
drawing street children into the educational mainstream, developing their
skill, providing shelter to the abandoned and protecting children in distress
through their helpline CHILDLINE1098.
KDS has 1,680
students under its care, runs 46 centres and a total of 06 projects. Catering
to the underprivileged and migrant population, they conduct Remedial School
Projects covering 30 government-run schools spread over North and South Goa,
where the weaker students are given after-school hours classes in English,
Maths and Science. The Non Residential Special Training Centres too cater to
children who find it tough to cope with their studies. These classes are run at
various centres around slum dwellings spread over Goa.
The artists
participating in Different Strokes are: Mohan Naik, Wilson D’Souza of Pyde
Pyper Academy, Yolanda de Souza, Harshada Kerkar, Suhas Shilkar as also Damodar
Madgaonkar and Sandesh Gaundalkar, who have won laurels at the recent Goa State
Art Exhibition, together with Dr. Aparna Pradhan, Dr. Vishal Dubashi, Nandini
Raikar, Jyoti Mehta, Anita Kubal, Abeline Fernandes, Shamina Pereira, Vaishnavi
Shalkhwalkar, Vasant Hede, Vatsala Kamat Hede, Stacy Rodrigues, Steishan
Fernandes, Sunil Shirodkar, Jolene Pereira, Daniel de Souza, Clarence de Souza,
Sherwin Pereira, Merwyn Caldeira, Deanne DSouza, Dale Dias, Alvito D’Costa,
Shailesh Dabholkar, Bazil Mota, Sarita Sawant, Stephanie de Sousa, Pooja
Belgaokar, Chaitna Bandodkar, Simona Fernandes, Elizabeth Fernandes, Anagha
Deshpande, Fr Royston D’Souza, Jasmine Rocha and Rubina DSouza.
Like the colours of
the rainbow, all artists with their paints and brushes promise to colour the
walls of Sanskruti Bhavan and hope to adorn your walls too, with their
fantastic talent. The public’s contribution towards acquiring these paintings
will help to uplift the lives of underprivileged children and go a long way in
educating future generations, who look forward to living a better life.
