Bhurgim Tim, Baulim Nhoim

‘Bhurgim Tim, Baulim Nhoim’, a tiatr written and directed by
Francisco
Xavier Almeida and
presented by Jesus Mary Dramatic Association, Margao, focuses on responsibility
and negligence of parents towards their children.

Tony (Silvan D Costa) and Tina (Doris
Faria) are blessed with two children, Miles (Edison Baretto) and Mable (Aliya
Dias). Tony is a carpenter by profession while Tina is a housewife. Tina’s
friend, Melani, steps in and urges her to take up a job.

After much coaxing, Tina decides gives in
and seeks gainful employment. While Tina wins favour from her boss (F X
Almeida), her husband, Tony, gets carried away by Melani. The couple falls
apart and both fail to shoulder responsibility towards their children.

One day, when Tony and Tina are dining at
a restaurant with their children, Tony moves away with Melani while Tina goes
her own was as her boss was delayed. What is the fate of the children, who are
left behind without their parents? Will they ever receive love from them?

‘Bhurgim Tim, Baulim Nhoim’ carries a poor
script, with no direction at all. Silvan and Doris come together as husband and
wife, but the latter raises her voice constantly, irrespective of where she is.
As children, Edison and Aliya deliver their dialogues, but seem lost as far as
movements on stage are concerned. Vitorino Tavares plays the grandfather of the
children, but fails to deliver in body language.

The comedy by Virol Cardoz, Nelcy Gomes
and Petrino Pereira, which should have been part of the story, was traced
outside. It failed to entertain and the comedians couldn’t deliver the laughter
pills naturally.

In
the category of songs, there were hardly any which would entertain, except for
the opening choral by Mario, Avista and Agneta and solos by Chriselda Rodrigues
and Rhea Miranda. Live music by the musicians, besides the background music,
wasn’t appealing to the ears. The stage sets too carried a poor look.
