For almost two decades, India has been watching
‘CID’, a television anthology series about India’s Crime
Investigation Department on Sony Entertainment
Television that has new story to tell in every episode.
Amidst the show’s many Goan fans is Rakhee Lotlikar
from Vasco, who proved her interest for the show by
penning down a story that won the Shaatir Lekhak
Contest held by ‘CID’. Being selected from the countless
entries that were sent for the competition, Rakhee won a
certificate and cash prize of Rs 50,000. The other winners
of the contest were Irfan Ahmad Bhat from Baramulla,
Jammu and Kashmir and Vineeta Singh from Kanpur,
Uttar Pradesh. The contest was a great opportunity for
the fans to participate in the show and come a step closer
to their favourite characters.
With an MBA in Finance, Rakhee is an environmental
engineer who has studied and worked in Mumbai. Born
and brought up in Goa, she moved back home to work
on her own startup, Vajra World Inc. “Apart form ‘CID’
and ‘Savdhan India’, I watch a lot of shows on Discovery
Channel. Writing was only a hobby. I gave it a try and was
very happy with the results,” she says.
Rakhee submitted her story in July last year but
the results were out just last month. The contest was
declared on TV and she decided to try her story-writing
skills. “The story revolves around a girl who is found with
a gun in her hand; an app plays an important role in the
story. I was inspired by the different innovations we see
on Discovery Channel. The App angle speaks of new
innovative technology. I was surprised when I received
the news that I had won the competition, specially since
this is the first time I ever wrote a story,” she says.
The process of being a part of the popular show
is still in progress as Rakhee now has to translate her
English story into Hindi and pen down dialogues for each
character. Following this, the episode will be filmed.
“Apart from the winning amount, once the episode
is aired, we will receive a share of the revenue of the
episode, with credit. It will take another 2-3 months for
the episode to finally air,” adds Rakhee, who is really
excited about the project.
A regular viewer of the show, Rakhee had never
thought she would ever get to meet its actors in person.
She says, “There were 7-8 cast members at the award
function,
including ACP
Pradyuman
played by
Shivaji Satam, Abhijeet played by Aditya Srivastav and
Daya played by Dayanand Shetty. I would have never
got a chance to meet them in real life had I not won the
contest. I am thankful to Sony Network for selecting my
story and giving me the chance to see the lead actors
and have them perform according to my script. Sony
Entertainment Television were very hospitable, offering
us an interesting glimpse of the television industry, the
workings of which we, as an audience, don’t really know
much about.”
Rakhee is happy that her every endeavour is supported
by her family. “My brother, Raj, is my backbone when it
comes to a new challenge. He is always motivating me
and telling me that I can do whatever I set my mind to. He
was the one to encourage me to take my central exams
for customs despite not having any background in it. My
father, Shivram, is a businessman and my mother, Shilpa,
is a housewife, and without their support, we both would
not be engineers,” says Rakhee
