College
functions are a part and parcel
of the co-curricular activities celebrated with a lot of splendour and
solemnity. They act as a medium of diversion from the student’s daily routine
and provide a platform for the students to showcase their versatility.
Government Polytechnic College in Curchorem holds plenty of such events every
year among which, Ekartha is the major one and is celebrated for 3 days.
To win this annual
inter-class event, each department has to collect points by participating in
different competitions. At the end of the event, the class with the highest
number of points in their tally wins.
Preparations for
Ekartha commence a month before, with students going to all lengths to ensure
that their department wins. It is encouraging to see that even the shy ones
were seen participating in full swing.
As the long awaited
day finally dawned, the competition kick-started with a treasure hunt and
students were seen scurrying around the campus to hunt for clues and find the
treasure. The clay models made by students were perfect and impressive and the
multiple dress designs made from paper looked stunning. Other backstage events
included video making, tug-of-war, paper-dress making, clay modelling,
face-painting, flag-painting, etc. As the rest of the day progressed, the
scoreboard kept changing as did the excitement among the students.
The last two days of
the event were reserved for on-stage activities. It was organised at Ravindra
Bhavan. The student council members and their coordinators were continuously
monitoring and supervising all the goings-on to ensure that the event ran
smoothly and as per schedule. Day 2 of the schedule started with a skit
competition highlighting the issues faced by our youth followed by mute-beat,
ad mad show, singing, sawang, dancing, junkyard beats, fashion show, GPC got
talent, etc. As the event inched to a close, the competition got all the more
intense. The students left no stone unturned to increase their chances of
winning. Each department’s catchy competitive slogans echoed and collided
throughout the auditorium. The Third Year Electrical & Electronics class
emerged as the winners and took home the Ekartha-2K19 trophy. The college
Principal Ajit Gaonkar, guest of honour Gajanan Desai, HOD of Computer
Department Dr Ricky Nunes and HOD of Electrical Department Pravin Kamat were
called on the dais during the closing ceremony. Amita Naik from final year
Electrical was crowned ‘Ms GPC-2k19’ while Saish Gaonkar from computer
department won the title of ‘Mr GPC-2k19’. College magazine named ‘Moments’ was
also released that evening.
