Fantastic Five packs a punch

Don Jevonn is Herald’s in-house food critic. He (or is it she?) will appear incognito, sample wares from off the menu and then leave, having paid the bill in full. For Don Jevonn is one of Goa’s quintessential characters and believes that in order to be objective, he must appear to be your average diner

Regardless of
the fact that the Hyatt properties
of Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt in Goa are two completely
different properties located in two different locations, comparisons drawn
between the immensely popular Wicked Liquid Brunch at the former, and the
relatively modest brunch at the latter property, was a common phenomenon. That
was until a few weeks ago. The folks at Park Hyatt Resort and Spa perhaps took
this feedback seriously and decided to completely revamp their brunch affair and
the result is what they’re calling, ‘Fantastic Five Brunch’. As the name
suggests, the brunch offers the best from the five specialty restaurants of the
resort property – Casa Sarita (Goan), Masala (Indian), Da Luigi (Italian),
Village Café (Asian and Mediterranean) and Palms (European influenced seafood).

We chose a rather
perfect occasion to sample all this with a hint of saffron – an ancient Indian
spice that is as costly as gold and as lucrative a commodity to smuggle – at
the Saffron Brunch, a part of the three-day Park Hyatt Masters of Food and Wine
experience celebrating saffron. The three-day affair saw Chef Prakash, Chef
Aashish and Chef Sushant from the specialty restaurants of the property come
together to host an exquisite experience of delectable discoveries at from June
22 to 24, 2018.

The brief given to
the chefs for the Saffron Brunch was rather simple (or rather, the chefs made
it look simple) – infuse the element of saffron in every cuisine on offer. The
result was a unique menu of saffron-infused cocktails, an array of goodies that
included yellow-ish dimsums and sushi to name a few, and a host of other dishes
that may or may not have been imagined with saffron before.

The Fantastic Five,
the regular version of the brunch, is held at Village Café that allows a
splendid view of the pristine property from the heart of the Resort. Choices
are aplenty with live grills, beverage offerings and a lavish spread of five
distinct culinary experiences. The fare is a food trail of sorts that begins at
Village Café and extends till Casa Sarita. The brunch features an exotic
seafood bar, cheese counter, antipasti platters, steamed dim sum, Khao Suey,
oven baked pizza, freshly baked bread station, Goan delicacies combined with
Indian and Western delicacies. The cooking stations at Village Café, each
featuring a different culinary style, showcase the best of international and
local cuisines, including a chaat counter too.

We
all look forward to the weekend to unwind and relax. While we may have different
ways to make the most out of the time we get after a long working week, the
Sunday brunch has become increasingly popular with those in Goa, thereby
pushing the resorts and hotels across Goa to go all out to up their brunch
game. Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa has finally arrived to the party and from
the looks of it, it is not leaving anytime soon.
