For once, we won’t mind being kranky

Started as an alternative to the festival scene in Goa, Krank – a 3-day club event, has been competing with the Supersonics and Sunburns of the world for the past three years

First held in 2011, Krank – another 3-day
EDM event and a property of Indivibe, has been rather quietly trying to lure
the December crowd for the past three years. But if you thought it is just
another EDM festival, you might be mistaken. An official spokesperson of
Indivibe who doesn’t wish to be quoted, says, “Krank is not a festival but a
3-day club event that takes place at a different venue every year. Krank is not
about getting tens and thousands of people, having multiple stages or booking
the top 10 DJs and overcrowding or having long queues at the bars. Krank
started as an alternative to the festival scene in Goa, focusing on a niche
crowd that wanted a different experience. We cater to the kind of crowd that is
looking for a boutique experience where quality underground music,
surroundings, service and an intimate atmosphere are foremost. A big part of
the Krank Boutique experience is the location. Hence it is always in
collaboration with a club.”

Post its first edition in 2011 which was
held at F Beach Club in Candolim, the second edition was held at Bardo in
Ashvem and the third at Teso Waterfront in Siolim. In its fourth year, Krank
makes its way to Vagator and will be held at Chronicle. What is also
interesting is the fact that unlike its previous dates of Decmber 28, 29 and
30, this year, Krank will be clashing with the dates of Sunburn Goa and VH1
Supersonic and the reason for this is not just coincidental. Indivibe says,
“Those are the dates right before New Year’s when the tourist season in Goa is
it at its peak. We felt the 30th did not work as well as the other days,
perhaps because it is closer to the 31st and everyone is busy preparing for
that.”

The artist line-up of Krank, which majorly
features underground DJs from India and abroad, features underground artists
such as Arjun Vagale, Ma Faiza, BLOT!, Ash Roy, Kohra and others. In addition
to that, this year, Krank will see many DJs like Macromism (who’s signed to
famous techno labels such as Dubfire’s Sci+Tec Digital and Christian Smith’s
Tronic) and Mastra from Switzerland play for the first time in Goa. The new
venue in Vagator also comes with the introduction of trance acts from artists
like Mad Maxx and Designer Hippies, apart from a video mapping setup at this
edition. So go ahead and get kranky!
