A wave of drama and controversy unfolded at the Miss Universe 2025 event in Bangkok after tensions erupted into a walkout led by several contestants. The incident began during a live sash presentation when Thai pageant director Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly confronted Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, accusing her of skipping a promotional shoot and demanding she “stand up and explain.”
The confrontation escalated when Itsaragrisil referred to Bosch as a “dummy,” sparking outrage among contestants and viewers. Bosch firmly defended herself, saying she was being disrespected both as a woman and as a national representative. Her remarks drew applause, and more than a dozen participants — including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjr Theilvig — walked out in solidarity.

Outside the venue, Bosch criticised the behaviour, saying, “He called me dumb because he has problems with the organisation. That’s not fair. We are empowered women, and no one can shut our voice.” The Miss Universe Mexico organisation later issued a statement supporting her, declaring that “Mexico does not shut up — Mexico is rising up.”
Following massive backlash, Itsaragrisil apologised publicly, claiming his comments were misinterpreted. The Miss Universe Organisation intervened, dispatching a senior official to Thailand to oversee operations and ensure a respectful environment.
The incident has reignited debates over contestant treatment and power dynamics in global beauty pageants. The Miss Universe 2025 final is scheduled for November 21, with India represented by Manika Vishwakarma.
