Goa is no stranger to the cause of generating funds to come
to the aid of Nepal in their time of need. In recent times, the recently
released Konkani film ‘MMS’ organised screenings, with the proceeds being
donated to the victims of the Nepal tragedy. In keeping with this spirit of
magnanimity, the musical fraternity in Goa, under the banner of a concept by
Aneesh Gera, has come together to showcase the best music and entertainment in
Goa for a cause – Nepal Relief.

The event will see the best of Goa’s entertainers across
live bands and DJs taking to the stage as well as the console to put up their
best and raise funds for a cause. The event, which is set to unfold at Café
Mambo on May 31, will commence at 4:30 pm and go on well into the wee hours. Speaking
on the ideation behind the creation of this event, Aneesh says, “Never before
have we had a coming together of all musicians, artists and DJs, all uniting
for the same cause. I felt that we as an industry could do our bit to alleviate
the suffering of a community at large. It was heart-warming to know that I
wasn’t alone in this thought process and that the industry as a whole responded
in an overwhelming fashion.”

What is in itself a remarkable feat is the crossing over of
many artistes, irrespective of how contrasting their music may be. For
instance, Lawry, the popular bassman associated with the band L’Ace, will find
himself crossing paths with the likes of DJ Claudio, though almost everyone’s
thought process on that front would normally have been in the words of Rudyard
Kipling: “Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall
meet.” This in itself indicates the need of the community to come together
for a cause.

In a world where many are sceptical as to whether money put
towards good causes actually finds its way towards said cause, Aneesh clarifies
that no money will change hands at this event. “All performers will donate
their fee paid by sponsors towards the Nepal Relief Fund, along with a share of
the revenue generated by bar sales at the venue. Anyone who wishes to aid in
their own way is more than welcome to contribute as they see fit,” he says.

While the event has already managed to put together a
star-studded line-up, this could exponentially increase with the arrival of
other key players in the industry who are yet to be confirmed as performers, pending
sponsorship. With Submerge, the driving force behind major EDM festivals,
promoting the event as well as the backing of major players such as Seagrams as
title sponsors, Nepal Relief promises to be a defining
moment in Goa’s history of entertainment, and one that radiates the generosity
that is connected with Goa.
