students of Carmel College for Women, Nuvem have successfully staged eight
shows of their tiatr ‘Lok Kitem Muntolo?’ and are going to be presenting their
last show today, June 9 at 3.30pm at Pilar Seminary Hall. Inoshka Moraes, the
writer and director of the all women’stiatr shares her experience
From small comedy skits at annual day programs to a complete seven act tiatr,
Inoshka Morares has infused humour and tragedy in her thought provoking debut
tiatr, ‘Lok Kitem Muntolo?’ With an all womencast with the exception of their
professor Agnelo Dias, the students of Second Year of Carmel College, Nuvem
presented eight shows in Goa and have been very successful at their first
attempt. The tiatr is written and directed by InoshkaMoraes, Cultural Secretary
of Carmel College. The opening song is written by Inoshka’s uncle, Emeliano De
Borda along with a Kanth ‘Girest Rochun’. The second Kanth, ‘O Clara’ is
written by Agnelo Dias and the other songs in the tiatr belong to the
respective singers.
“I had actually written, acted and
directed in a small comedy skit along with my classmates for Teacher’s Day and
I continued doing the same for various occasions and events in our college. Our
sister principal, Dr Sr Aradhana AC and Vice Principal Maria Lizzane
appreciated us and suggested that we put up a proper tiatr as this will be a
good opportunity to raise funds and an opening for budding artists to showcase
our talent on a huge platform,” says Inoshka. The last show of the tiatr is
today, June 9, 2019 at 3.30pm at Pilar Seminary Hall, Pilar.
The cast includes Inoshka Moraes,
Neychelle Anna Vaz, Selima Gomes, Cheryl Duarte, Janaya Picardo, Mansi Naik,
Ashwetha De Souza, Anicia Corte,Jesney Carvalho, Claire Almeida, Simran Khan,
Jessa Mascarenhas, Serafina Pereira,Renicia Cardozo, Andria Fernandes, Tanya
Dsouza and Agnelo Dias, a history professor who played a double role andsang

some are Science and Commerce students but all are amateur dramatists without
any background in tiatr.
“The college has supported us tremendously for the tiatr. We
were provided with lunch when we stayed back for practices and Dr Sr Aradhana
AC and Maria Lizzanne came to check on our practices. The college took care of
the financial needs by booking the hall, musicians, stage settings,
advertisements and providing all of us with a stipend. Professor Agnelo Dias
took care of all the equipments and was the one who encouraged us throughout,”
says Inoshka. The girls took 45 days for rehearsals, sometimes staying back
till 6pm. They even sacrificed their holidays but in the end they found that it
was all worth it.
Earlier men played women’s roles in tiatr, but for this show,
Inoshka, Janaya, Mansi, Anicia, Serafina and Simran, played the male roles for
the tiatr to the T. “Being girls and acting as middle age men was such a fun
experience. For me and for my cast, this is a proud moment that as young
artists we have achieved a grand success. We like to think out of the box and
we want to make a difference in the society,” she says.
The Directorate of Art and Culture has sponsored five shows and
has provided financial assistance along with the auditoriums and certificate of
appreciation to the entire cast of ‘Lok Kitem Muntulo?’ “We would also like to
thank the director Gurudas P Pilarnekar for his support and encouragement. As
he is also the Member Secretary of Kala Academy, he had sponsored one show
too,” says Inoshka.
The
success of the tiatr has certainly motivated the girls and they hope to have
more shows in the future. “Our tiatr ‘Lok Kitem Muntolo?’ turned out to be
really very successful as we had only planned to have one show but because it
was so good and very much appreciated by the audience, we got to eight more
shows. We would love to continue doing more shows if we get the financial
assistance and we dream to perform outside Goa to promote Konkani. Many a times
it is said that the younger generation does not favour the promotion of Konkani
language but through this tiatr and our effort we tried our best to promote our
language,” concludes Inoshka.
