Goa’s best awarded with the Dalgado awards

Dalgado Konknni Acad­emy presented their annual Dalgado Awards in various
disciplines. The impres­sive Dalgado award 2020 presentation ceremony was held
at the Institute Menezes Braganza Conference HALL at Panjim late last month.

The award ceremony
was attended by a large audience comprising of writers, priests, Konkani lovers
and members of Dalgado Konknni Academy along with their families members. And
the friends and family of recipients of the award. Prominent among those
present were Fr. Jose Silveira, Director of Thomas Stephen Konknni Kendr,
Porvorim, Rev. Fr. Manuel Gomes, Shri Tomazinho Cardozo, Ex President of Dal­gado
Konknni Academy, Prof. Arun Sakardhande, President of Goa Konknni Academy,
Panjim. Shri Premanand A.Lotlikar , Ex-President of Dalgado Konknni Academy and
renown tiatrist was the Chief Guest and presented the prestigious awards to the
winners.

Addressing the august
gathering the Chief Guest Shri Lotlikar made a pas­sionate appeal to unite all
the Konkani forces irrespec­tive of the script and work together for the
develop­ment of our mother tongue Konkani. Emphasizing on the need to grant
official status to Konkani in Roman script, Premanand said that if Ro­man
script is granted official status by the government, it will be the language
that will derive maximum benefit and prosper. The Roman script Konkani writers
are working passionately for the development of Konkani language and the only
desire they have is to see that the Roman script getting the official status.

The Chief Guest touched an emotional chord when he said “It is
regretted to note that our own brothers when they migrate to foreign land for
their livelihood they neglect the use of mother tongue with their children. It
is important to note that Konkani is our mother tongue and the identity of
every Goan. And we should speak in our mother tongue with our children.”

Shri. Vincy Quadros, President of Dalgado Konknni Academy high­lighted
various schemes and activities undertaken by the Academy. He informed the
gathering that the work to publish first Konkani diction­ary has gathered steam
and it is in the final stages. He also said that DKA is publish­ing books in
Roman script for the Pre-Primary and Primary schools. He called upon the
Konknni lovers to avail the various schemes offered by the Academy and support
them in their various activities conducted for the promotion of Konkani
language.

Fr. Ave Maria Alfonso re­cipient of Dalgado Sahiyitik Award
spoke on behalf of the awardees. Mathaias Mas­carenhas Band played the
beautiful Konkani numbers to receive the awardees
