They are the ones keeping us safe
day in and day out. Risking their lives and the health of their families, they
are putting our wellbeing first. The police force in Goa has been keeping Goans
in check during the lockdown and they are also spreading awareness through
their amazing singing talent.

Deputy Superintendent of Police,
Konkan Railways Police, Margao, Sammy Tavares has been singing to unite Goans
against Coronavirus. He composed and sang two songs with music by Norman
Cardozo to give a message about the fight against Corona. Since he is in South
Goa, he is sometimes also accompanied by Sub Inspector Diogo Gracias from Vasco
Police station and Bhakti Devidas of Vasco Railway Police Station.

Both, Bhakti and Diogo were awarded
the “Cop of the Day” award on April 15 and 16, 2020 respectively by Arvind
Gawas, IPS (SP South).

“Since the lockdown, we have been
singing everyday in the different parts of Salcette, Quepem, Sanguem and
Mormugao. We also covered Vasco and Canacona. We recently crossed 50 villages
with the latest being Balli, Cuncolim, Chinchinim, Assolna, Ambelim, Vasco,
Cortalim and Verna. The response to the songs in Konkani has been tremendous.
We ask people to stay indoors and those who are out maintain social distancing.
We announce for people not to gather. The songs are appreciated because through
it they are receiving the message on the fight against this pandemic,” says
Sammy Tavares.

Sub Inspector Diogo Gracias has
composed four songs on the pandemic and with different catchy tunes, he belts
out these songs with his melodious voice. “We have been singing everyday.
Initially, I used to sing with Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares
but now we go to different locations. The four songs have been getting a very
good response. The songs are ‘Coronavirus’, ‘Birankul Dues’, ‘Chint Monxea’ snd
‘Bhair Soronaka’,” says Diogo.

Edwin M S Colaco, Dy S P, Goa
Police Service composed a song, ‘Gharantuch tu Arab’ which gained 7000 views on
social media within 72 hours. The song, sung by Goencho Avaz winner Cielda
Pereira and Elvis Mascarenhas is a social message on COVID 19 to all citizens
to stay home and stay safe. The song was enacted by Elvis Mascarenhas, Elaine
Pinto and Sarah Pereira for the music video directed by Andrew De Souza.

“I never tried composing after my
college level and I thought this is a good time to write a song. I composed the
song on April 8, 2020 and it was recorded in two days. The song and video was
ready in six days and released on social media,” says Edwin who controls the
jurisdiction of Porvorim sub-division which covers the Porvorim, Saligao and
Calangute police stations.

He is working on a new song to pay
tribute to the mother land and those working to protect it. “The next song is
almost ready and is a tribute to the motherland and the frontline warriors who
are fighting against this pandemic. There are many talented musicians and
singers in the police force but since everyone is out there for the whole duty,
they also need rest, he adds.

The police is really doing a
fabulous job of protect Goa and at the same time entertaining it’s citizens.
