Goa’s Nisha Madgavkar creates Triathlon history for the state

 Nisha Madgavkar created history for the state by winning the 40-44 age group category at
the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Colombo by clocking 5:44:42 hours for the 1.9km
sea swim+90kms cycling+21kms half marathon race which concluded here on
February 24.

This qualified her for the Ironman 70.3
World Championships to be held in France in September 2019. Five Goans
including Nisha finished the Ironman 70.3 triathlon race on Sunday, making it
the biggest contingent from the state competing at an overseas Ironman
Triathlon event. The team and their timings are as follows, Vinayak Gaonkar
(5:23:44), Wilbert Egipsy (6:05:30), Zubin Rebello (6:28:39) and Rahul
Chandawarkar (7:19:11).

There were 500 triathletes from multiple
countries taking part in the Colombo event with as many as 270 from host
country Sri Lanka and 93 triathletes from India.

Speaking
to Café, Nisha said, “It is a very challenging race, but the Sri Lankan spirit
keeps you coming back for more. I am very proud of my fellow team mates for
pulling through the day with flying colours.”
