Clynton Fernandes has made quite a name for himself in the world of music. In Goa, people would hear
of Clynton’s rise in the music industry and wonder: When will Clynton perform
in Goa again? Last year, the talented youngster created an original fan-made
music video, called ‘Playing the Game of Thrones’, which was an instant hit
with not only GOT fans across India but the world over. Making waves in a space
he is a novice at, in many ways, has been Clynton’s story, be it the time he
took up basketball and went on to become a star on the court or even in the
field of academics, where Clynton now has his own academy in Pune, where he has
roped in professors who teach Physics and Science.
As much as teaching is his bread and butter, Clynton loves to
jam and swears that he is still a young student when it comes to music, despite
his long list of achievements and accolades.
Clynton’s heart and soul has always been his music and when you
see Clynton perform, it’s like he’s a different animal altogether; his work
reminds you of the kind of performances music legends are famous for.
It is no wonder then, that Clynton has been winning
competitions, where his vocal prowess and showmanship win any audience over,
including the juries. He has even won college level festivals including
personality contests like the one held at Carmel College, Nuvem in the early
2000s.
Clynton was the first Kingfisher Voice ofGoa and brand
ambassador of Kingfisher in 2005. He continued to audition and participate in
such competitions and Karaoke turned out to be his domain, having won the
Karaoke challenge held at the famous Opus Bangalore in 2012. Clynton, who
performed for around 100 shows for Kingfisher Voice of Goa, then moved to Pune,
where he soon won the Best Metal Vocalist at YOUTHOPIA – Battle Of Bands. Among
other laurels in his career, he has represented India in the Karaoke World
Championships held in Singapore in 2015 after winning the India round.
“I am an‘80s glam rock child and I’m also into western
classical,” Clynton says, when asked to describe his style.
Thesinger/songwriter, who is based in Pune for over a decade
now, spearheads the band EDEN OFFICIAL and is also a freelance musician who has
worked on tributing mammoth bands like Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the
likes. He believes in absolute entertainment and storytelling, which is very
visible in his song writing.
When asked about his journey so far, he says it has given him
experience and versatility to explore music on a number of different levels. He
is focused on a project that, he says, is fuelled by his own originality; it
has been graciously incepted, fashioned and decorated by close friends and
music experts. He wants to bring a complete new idea of music, relating to
every situation and creativity of his life.
Clynton recently got married in Goa and felt that it was time
for a professional homecoming as well. “As an artiste,I’ve travelled around
cities like Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai, playing at Hard Rock Cafés and other
similar venues that invited me. A gig in Goa is always special, and I want this
one to be absolutely dreamy, so I’ve waited for almost 12 years to finally
bring the best of me back home,” adds Clynton.
He says that his close friend Mrinal Manu is the one who had
suggested doing a show in Goa and helped put things in place. As part of ‘The
Live Music Project’ that is currently staged at Firefly Bistro, Clynton will be
performing at this Saturday’s Pop Rock Special night at the popular Benaulim
venue.
“Post the Game of Thrones video, I went underground, training on
my vocal range and writing new material. This band, Look Who’s Playing, is a
very well balanced musical project with a lovely mix of energy and groove and
what better venue than Goa to start things up,” says Clynton, who will
performing with his band that is about a year old.
“Look Who’s Playing is a progressive rock funk band that
comprises four seasoned musicians. The band focuses on music that will draw its
audience into a dance frenzy. As the band name suggests, the band is all about
an awesome stage presence. The songs are centred around catchy tunes and
day-to-day concepts that would leave an audience spellbound and a venue
absolutely jam-packed,” says Vinesh Iyer of TLMP.
According to Clynton, he wants to make his audience the centre
of his performance and hence has put up an intricate show. “We are a high
energy, funk and pop band and we want to create a dance vibe. We are compiling
all the favourite songs and want to basically reach out and say hello to
everyone with our music,” he adds.
Besides
Clynton (vocals), the line up consists ofHemant Aligi (bass guitar/vocals),
Akshay Nathwani (drums/vocals), Sheldon Boodle (guitars) and Chanchal
(keyboards).
