Has the ISL lost its groove after the long break?

Now that the current season of Indian Super League (ISL) has resumed, Café finds out whether the long break has led to a dip in the excitement levels among fans

While fans have been looking forward to each FC Goa game as
the state’s home team vies for the title of the Indian Super League (ISL), the
amount of time between matches has led to an interesting debate among fans.
While earlier, the argument put forward defending the long breaks was more
focused on ensuring that the players got enough rest between games; the counter
argument has been that these long breaks such as the recent 40-day winter break
have led to a dip in excitement levels and even in match attendance. The
question being asked is whether shortening these breaks would have made the ISL
a more exciting affair.

Here are some reactions from FC Goa
Fans who weigh in on this recent winter break and the impact it has had on the
overall interest in the tournament:

I think the winter break has proven to be a bit of a mood off.
The hype and the passion also get affected. Teams tend to lose the momentum.
The winter break might turn out to be decisive after all. Hopefully the fans
stick to the team and that gets the passion and morale of team on the up again.

DYLAN D’CUNHA

I hope the winter break hasn’t hindered with the team chemistry
and management. Hopefully, they are carrying on from where they had stopped
earlier. As fans, we need to act as the 12th man, galvanising them throughout.

The winter break lasted for a whole month and a lot has taken
place in between. International and national tournaments like the Asian Cup,
Australian Open, Khelo Games were held simultaneously in this month, which has
kept fans engrossed in the wide sporting world leaving them lost.

JOSHUA D’SOUZA

The 40-day-long break felt like an abrupt end rather than a
halt. As a fan, I was left confused as to why there was such a long break. I
also lost track of the team standings.
