I want to be known as a ‘worker’

Dasha Days from Anjuna recently triumphed at the Goa University Student Council Elections to become the new chairperson of the council

With an uncle and a grandmother who are the current panchayat members of Anjuna panchayat, leadership skills run
in Dasha’s family. The new Chairperson of the Goa University Student Council, Dasha Days from Anjuna won unopposed
recently and is happy to be the first lady to do so. The elated final year student of MCom and BJP representative is
honoured with the victory and feels that she is now in a better position to resolve issues that concern the youth – primarily
women. Dasha says, “I’m going to start my responsibilities by working towards the issues of harassment and eve-teasing
faced by women in colleges and buses. Also, being the chairperson, it gives me the freedom to work towards other things
like conducting seminars or counselling sessions for girls whose parents are not supportive of pursuing studies post
graduation. I have made it clear to all the university representatives from various other colleges to reach out to their
students, to identify problems and come to me and I will do my best to resolve them.” Dasha admits the fact that this
victory is a stepping stone for her into mainstream politics but not before being recognised as a genuine ‘worker’. Dasha
says, “It is important to sustain my image as someone who supports her words with suitable actions. Otherwise I will be one of the many who come and then disappear within no time. Only then, maybe, the BJP party will recognise my work and give me more opportunities.”
