It’s that time of the
year when movie buffs in Goa are exposed to films of different genres and
languages brought in by the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of
India (IFFI). Panjim is getting ready to welcome a huge line-up of movie stars,
directors and other personalities who are linked to the world of cinema in
India and abroad.
Jointly conducted by the
National Film Development Corporation of India, under the Ministry of
Information and Broadcasting, and the state government of Goa, the 53rd edition
of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be held in Panjim from
November 20-28. The film festival will screen over 280 films from 79 countries.
It include 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films from PAN India that will
be showcased in the ‘India Panorama’ while 183 films will be a part of
international programming. The Austrian movie ‘Alma and Oskar’ directed by
Dieter Berner will open the festival.
IFFI-53 is paying tribute to legendary
French-Swiss film director, screenwriter, and film critic Jean-Luc Godard and a
high-point of this cine fiesta is a special screening of a few gems (of films)
created by the master film maker. A highlight of Asia’s oldest film festival
this year is also the celebration of French cinema, with France been made the
Focus Country. And undoubtedly, Godard is a defining personality of French
Cinema
