There is still time for the results to be out however that
is not stopping companies from making their way into the campus in search of
the Gen next polished talent from one of India’s top institutes. The students
along with the staff at the Goa campus remain hopeful as it is almost certain
that there will be 100 percent placement this year.
Currently, Capital One Bank is conducting interviews at the
Goa Campus and there are a host of other companies in line for the same
which is great news for the students as the market is responding very
optimistically.
According to sources, all the top companies are fighting for
the slots and the campus is actually turning them down as they do not have the
students who can be recruited in these firms. The employment opportunities have
increased and the students now have a wide variety of choices unlike earlier
when the placement team had to pull strings to place them in companies with
very little choice.
R B Mouli, Placement Manager at the Goa Campus, says that
companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Morgan Stanley and new start ups like Hike,
PAYU have already walked in to the campus and made offers to the students.
“Around 85 companies have confirmed this year for a bunch of
250 students and more than 20 companies have already conducted interviews in
the campus over the last couple of months and have increased their compensation
offers as well as they are now clear of what they want based on the students’ performances,” says Mouli.
The total strength of the campus is 650 students which are
divided into 2 batches, so currently, a batch of 250 students will be part of
the lucrative recruitment drive at the campus.
As all the students come through the BITS admission test,
which is one of the toughest, the Goa campus has a very minimal number of Goan
students at the campus. “Around 2 to 3 percent of the total strength are Goans
in the Goa BITS campus,” adds Mouli.
The students and the placement unit at the Goa Campus are
eagerly awaiting a reply from Apex Systems, an international firm from the USA
that has already conducted interviews in the campus and news regarding recruitment
can come anytime next week.
“Last year Apex Systems had recruited 12 students from the
Goa Campus with an offer of $ USD1.10 lacs (Approx 70-75 lacs INR) per annum,
this year that figure could well go up as the Indian companies have made
lucrative offers,” says an optimistic Mouli.
It remains to be seen if any company matches the offer made
by Google this year especially from the Goa Campus.
