The clock is
ticking and the time is coming
closer to hear the buzz after we vote for the right candidate.
That’s right! The upcoming election on April 23 has people getting busy with so
many things; promotions and campaigns. One such unique development ‘The EPIC
Selfie Contest’ was initiated by the Chief Electoral Officer Goa Shri. Kunal
IAS to promote voting.

The #GoVote campaign is trending across the country and the
Election Icons believe people would want to be a part of such a campaign by
saving the date 23rd April to Vote, the epic selfie contest would act like a
pedestal to help people turn their promise of “I am ready to vote”
into the reality of voting. The contest has already begun and has over 15
contestants who have already provided their selfies on the FB page.

As it’s fun and also creates awareness among people especially
youngsters to participate in the elections. A lot of people have been sending
their pictures lately. Stanley Quadros, one of the selfie contestant
says,” I’m proud to have this opportunity, it is a good way to promote
voting, and even fun!”

According to Pradeep
Naik, state election icon and the Director of Art and Culture, the constitution
has given us a big gift- the right to vote. “The Selfie contest is a god
approach to get people voting as that is the new trend in this generation. I
remember during Shigmo Utsav, we carried this selfie frame and were happy to
see many people coming and clicking pictures near the frame, later, they posted
on the social media… that too is one way of creating awareness,” he said.

The
contest is being marketed widely by the Social Media Platforms such as
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Pages of CEOGoa. “We are trying to promote in
every way so that the contest reaches to the maximum populous. People love the
idea of trending lifestyle on Social Media which basically is the concept of
selfie,” says Isha Sawant nodal officer for SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education
and Electoral Participation).
