MARGAO: Fatorda is known for coming out on the streets and
celebrating Goemkarponn and all its aspects. This time around Fatorda will
celebrate the state heritage festival where Goan architecture homes in Fatorda
will be illuminated, walks will be conducted, drawing competitions for children
will be held and Goan legendary singers like Lorna and others will perform on
the streets of Fatorda while traditional Goan food stalls will be setup on all
the days with a traditional look.
“I am doing nothing more than fulfilling
my manifesto of promising my people of regaining Fatorda’s glory and
highlighting the heritage in this constituency. Creating heritage walks,
restoring heritage buildings, developing with consent and most importantly reliving
the legendary and historically important people of Fatorda itself,” stated
Vijai Sardessai, Deputy CM and MLA of Fatorda
Fatorda will be hosting Goa Heritage Festival 2019 on May 2,3,4
and 5,which will aim at focusing the efforts to conserve and promote our rich
heritage . Mr Sardesai said that our irreplaceable architectural heritage is
essential to our Goenkarponn.
“
We will be having two stages at the festival and we will recreate a stage with
a lot of heritage architecture aesthetics. Also the food stalls along the
Opinion Poll Square will be specially done keeping in mind the heritage
aspect,” stated the Heritage Festival Coordinator Oliver Monteiro.
Sardesai said that the heritage festival forms part of a much larger vision of a renaissance of
Goan culture and heritage, ignored and disregarded by successive governments,
“that find a place in our everyday life, its richness impacting all facets of
Goan life, art, music, performance, architecture, literature”
As part of the festival Margao Municipal Council has already
given approval to name the street after legendary singer Chris Perry as a
respect to him for his contribution for Konkani music and the film industry.
The road would be named in presence of Jazz legends including Louiz Banks, Braz
Gonsalves and Yvonne Gonsalves.
During the event, three kilometer long stretch would be
illuminated along with three important Heritage Houses. The plan is also to
have a permanent installation outside these houses, which will display the
actual name of the House. As a part of the festival, ambitious project The Goa
Tinto, envisaged by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation will also
be launched on May 2. The project aims to redevelop entire Old Market Area
bringing it back to its past glory.
The
project, which has a completion deadline of one year, will create a new tourist
space in Margao town at Old Market, which will be restored to the glory of its
yesteryears. The project includes redoing of the shops, roads and creating open
space, giving a complete heritage look, explained the local municipality
councilor Glen Andrade.
