Keeping traditions alive

To promote Goan
folk music, dance and songs, and to keep the folk traditions alive, the Goan
Folk Art Group, Alto Porvorim in collaboration with the Directorate of Art and
Culture and Navjivan Society of Freedom Fighters held it 12th Goan Folk Art
Festival on August 15, 2019 at Azad Bhavan Hall, Porvorim to commemorate
Independence Day. This festival gives a platform to children, youth and senior
citizen groups to perform various Goan folk music, dance and songs. The program
witnessed an attendance of a large crowd that appreciated the immense
creativity put forth by all the performing groups.

This year’s program
paid tribute to the martyrs of the Indian armed forces, who laid down they lives
for the nation; the stage design had a replica of the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’. The
Chief Guest for the function was the Member of the Goa State Assembly, Provorim
Constituency, Rohan A Khaunte.
